I recently returned from a trip to Naples, Italy and was extremely impressed by the cultural aspects of this vibrant city. If you have not been to Naples in a while, you need to return. There is a new young major, Luigi De Magistris who is making a great many innovative and controversial improvements to the city. The first being the newly created pedestrian area along side the waterfront which encourages tourists and residents alike to stroll and enjoy the harmonious Bay of Naples lined with cafes, restaurants, and pizzerias. He has also tackled the problems of the unions that had created some deliberate delays with garbage collection a couple of years ago. The city is clean, and beaming with cultural events organized by the new Counselor of Culture and Tourism, Antonella Di Nocera. Here I am enjoying intermission at the amazingly beautiful Teatro San Carlo, the oldest Opera House in Europe watching Rusalka by the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. It was a truly magical evening.
