February 21, 2012 is Fat Tuesday and the final day of Carnevale will be widely celebrated in the cities of Lucerne, Basel and Montreux. Lucerne and Basel probably have the largest and most interesting festivals of costumes, music, parades and skits all over the cities. The people compete for the most unusual and exotic costumes and some prepare for this occasion all year long. This is a not to be missed opportunity when traveling to Switzerland in the winter months. Combine Carnevale with a ski vacation in Zermatt and couple that with Swiss hot chocolate and a romantic Swiss fondue dinner and you’ve got it all!
